The Conservative Long Con In 4 Easy Steps

Next time you hear a Republican elected official say something foolish, or vote for the 50th, 60th, or 100th time to repeal the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), remember this — many of these Republicans are not as ideological as you might believe. Oh sure, there are the true believers, but others are simply playing a long con on the conservative voting base. And this con has four simple steps.

Observation of the Day: Get A Job. No. Get A Better Job. No. There Are No Jobs.

Have you noticed the people who railed against Occupy Wall Street protesters, telling them to “get a job,” are some of the same people attacking fast food strikers, telling them to “get a better job”? And then these same people also revile President Obama, saying “there aren’t enough jobs,” and that “most of the jobs created are low paying jobs.”

CHART: The Conservative ‘Big Government’ Lie – U.S. Residents per Public Sector Worker

Conservatives loathe “big government.” I mean, they hate it with a passion. But their antipathy for big government is manufactured from a false pretense that larger government leads to smaller individual liberty. It’s hard to believe something as complex as the United States government, in a country with a population over 300 million, could be boiled down to a zero sum game of government vs. liberty, but that’s conservative logic for ya.

FCC Indecency Standards: Conservative Sponsored Government Censorship

The only people hanging on to antiquated FCC indecency regulations are conservatives and their various “family” groups. The rest of us recognize this for what it is, government censorship. Everyone could point to something they dislike when it comes to big media companies, but that is not a reason to violate the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Government can regulate industries, but it should never stifle free speech.
