Current TV Struggles To Find Ratings, Could Be Dropped By Time Warner

Current TV is trying to transform itself into a independent, liberal news commentary network. Countdown with Keith Olbermann at 8pm was the centerpiece to this plan and it was to serve as a springboard to launch a full primetime lineup of progressive commentary (just like MSNBC did over the past decade). During the past six months Current has debuted 7pm and 9pm shows (The Young Turks, The War Room with Jennifer Granholm) to surround ‘Countdown’. Just last week Current debuted a 6 hour block of programming from 6am to 12pm each weekday morning. Full Court Press with Bill Press from 6am to 9am and Talking Liberally with Stephanie Miller from 9am to 12pm. Both shows are simulcasts of existing liberal radio shows.

Obama Calls ‘Paul Ryan’ GOP Budget ‘Thinly Veiled Social Darwinism’, But There’s Nothing ‘Veiled’ About It

Speaking at an Associated Press luncheon on Tuesday, President Obama called Paul Ryan’s (R-WI) Republican budget plan “thinly veiled social Darwinism.” The president was referring to the budget’s massive tax cuts for the rich and steep cuts to programs for the poor. The GOP budget is nothing more than trickle-down economic theory, a religion to Republicans. It’s also the same economic theory that has for 30 years failed to produce even a trace of the “trickle down” promised.

No, Seriously, For Sure This Time: Mitt Romney Is The Republican Nominee

It’s been said before but this time it’s for real (no, seriously), Mitt Romney will be the Republican nominee for president. With 652 delegates, the math reveals what’s inevitable even if many Republicans find it hard to come to terms with reality. Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul can spin it any way they want but they all have one thing in common, they will not win the nomination.

Romney: Obama To ‘Establish A Religion Known As Secularism’

At a campaign event in Wisconsin on Monday, Mitt Romney said of the Obama administration, “I think there is a desire to establish a religion in America known as secularism.” Romney was replying to a question by a supporter asking why the administration was mandating contraceptive coverage for women employed by religious organizations. Romney also said there is a “war on religion” in this country. To that I say bullshit. When religious figures and organizations don’t get their way on public policy they believe they are being persecuted for their religious beliefs and so they conclude there must be a war on religion. I hate to break it to you, but your religion isn’t the only religion and it’s definitely not the law.

Supreme Court Rules 5-4 That Officials Can Strip-Search For Any Offense

Welcome to the police state where paranoid conservatives are running the show. On Monday the Supreme Court ruled that officials can strip-search people arrested without regard to the context or severity of the offense. It was yet another 5-4 vote along ideological lines with the conservative justices ruling that courts should not second-guess law enforcement officials.

The Republican Endgame: An America Where Big Ideas Are Dead

Republicans have become the party of “No we can’t” and Democrats have become the party of “Yes we can, but…”. Gone are the days of big ideas and big plans for the future. We no longer live in a country that is capable of shooting for the stars and solving big problems. Instead we are in a race to the bottom that has coincided with a political shift to the right that caters to rich and powerful interests.
