Does Trump Parallel Hitler’s Rise To Power?

Do you sometimes see a parallel between Donald Trump’s rise and Adolf Hitler’s rise? Shall I now pause and cringe, anticipating the boos & rotten tomatoes flying through the air? Yes, I know its become cliché to compare anyone contemporary to Hitler. But seriously, Donald Trump is spewing some extreme right-wing rhetoric during a time of economic uncertainty. His campaign appeals to “downtrodden” white people on issues they feel know are true without any supporting evidence, relying on stoked fears of the “other” who is infiltrating and ruining our once great nation.

Is The Term ‘Anchor Baby’ Offensive?

Donald Trump has repeatedly used the the term “anchor baby” on the Republican presidential campaign trail. But, is the term “anchor baby” offensive? I think that is the wrong question. And it’s especially the wrong question when asked of the purveyor.

Beating Back The Bern: Shilling For Hillary Clinton By Proxy

Something I’ve noticed in the past few days on social media is the backlash against Bernie Sanders supporters by certain “liberals.” To be clear, I put “liberals” in quotes because they are acting more like protectors of the establishment and not the liberals they claim to be. Hillary Clinton defenders are starting to “#FeelTheBern” and they are lashing out.

Mike Huckabee Announces 2016 Presidential Bid

On Tuesday, Mike Huckabee announced he is running for president for a second time. During a campaign launch speech in Hope, Arkansas, Huckabee cast himself as outside the Washington elite establishment, you know, just an average guy with humble roots from a small town.

Opportunity vs. Outcome: Acknowledging Inequality Is Not ‘Resentment’

Conservatives love talking about the idea that if everyone works hard, plays by the rules, they too shall prosper. Hell, even President Obama has used this same rhetorical refrain on many occasions. And whether he believes it’s true or not, it never quite rings true for me when he says it, because it seems he’s still trying, over five years into his presidency, to win over at least a few conservatives.

Conservatives Believe All Democratic Presidents Are Illegitimate

One thing is clear if you pay attention to politics, there’s a large contingent of conservatives in this country who believe a Democratic president, any Democratic president, is automatically illegitimate. It doesn’t matter that the Democratic president was elected by a majority (or plurality) of American citizens, because that never actually happened, according to conservatives. See in conservative fantasia, they believe most Americans are conservatives too, and because they believe this, that means no Democrat, especially not one with any liberal ideas, could possibly win a presidential election on the merits.

It Takes 270: Do Conservatives Understand The Republican Electoral Math Challenge?

I know conservatives want to stick to their convictions and show America what they are made of, but do they understand the odds they face in 2016? To say it bluntly, Republicans are electorally challenged. They have a serious math problem on their hands. In 2016, Democrats start out with easily eight or nine-tenths of the electoral college votes required (270) to win the presidential election. This is before a single American casts a ballot. Why? I’ll let a conservative explain it. A conservative who does understand this incredible hurdle that Republicans face in 2016 and beyond.

Liberal: What Does It Mean? – The Rise And Fall Of Modern Social Liberalism

In May of 2011, I asked the question “What does it mean to be a liberal?” The question and the blog post that followed were written months before the launch of what is now called The Left Call. Apparently I was not alone in asking the question as that post from nearly two years ago is now the 3rd most popular on this blog. And because of that, I feel the need to expand.
