Previous presidents, whether you agreed with them or not, all operated within the normal range of American political discourse. Maybe some tested that range, but they still had the ability to be civil and comforting when the country needed it. You know what needs to be “great again”? The American President. ... Five years ago when Donald Trump road that escalator and announced his candidacy, everyone including most people who are now Trump-for-lifers, believed it was a stunt, and he was clearly unqualifie...
Occasionally I’ll watch a clip from one of the Sunday shows like Meet the Press, This Week or Face the Nation, but I can no longer bring myself to watch these shows in full. Over at The American Prospect, Paul Waldman asks, “Why Do the Sunday Shows Suck So Much?” And make no mistake, these shows do suck.
Eliot Spitzer presents his Number of the Day: “32 — That’s how many states, plus the District of Columbia, allow early voting for anyone who wants it.”
If you didn’t hear about this one, Ann Romney’s plane had to make an emergency landing over the weekend when the cabin began to fill with smoke. At a fundraising event in California, with his wife at his side, Mitt Romney said:
During his “Number of the Day” segment on Viewpoint, Eliot Spitzer tells us that The Wall Street Journal has published 20 op-ed articles written by Romney advisers without disclosure. Essentially these articles are free advertisements for the Romney campaign in a prominent newspaper.
To say there is a sizable liberal bias in the media is to show how far the conservative movement has dragged this country to the right in the past 30 years. I’m talking politically, not socially. The country is on a progressive liberal march as always when it comes to social issues. The issues conservatives rail against today will be the issues they defend tomorrow. If there is truth to the charge of liberal bias in the media it is because, as Stephen Colbert quipped, “Reality has a well-known liberal bias.” In other words, it is liberals who have led the charge when it comes to advancing human progress on social issues, so it stands to reason the mainstream media would also have a similar slant if the media stands for the truth and what’s right. Alternatively you could go with Colbert’s “truthiness” and only accept “facts” you wish to be true (from the gut) instead of facts that are true.
NBC Universal put out a press release today that shows MSNBC had its first #1 night of prime time cable news coverage in its 16-year existence. MSNBC averaged 2.35 million viewers from 7pm to 2am. They hit their high for the night at 4.1 million viewers during the 10pm hour when First Lady Michelle Obama delivered her speech to the convention crowd.
During Thursday’s Republican National Convention coverage on Current TV, former vice president and former presidential candidate Al Gore said he supports getting rid of the Electoral College in favor of a simple popular vote.
Paul Ryan delivered a fact-challenged speech last night and today the media is calling him out. Conservatives call this “liberal media bias,” and it’s oh so convenient. It gives them cover to say whatever stupid shit comes to mind. Are you a conservative who has said something stupid, ignorant or factually inaccurate? Don’t correct yourself or apologize, simply blame the liberal media. Problem solved.
Conservative Daily Beast columnist Andrew Sullivan visited The Colbert Report on Tuesday and said the following about President Obama, gay rights, and the Republican Party:
