Supreme Court: McConnell Vows No Senate Confirmation For Obama Nominee

Only an hour after news broke of the death of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, with no time to wait for the body to cool, said, “The American people should have a voice in the selection of their next Supreme Court Justice. Therefore, this vacancy should not be filled until we have a new president.” Somewhere in that thought process McConnell forgot the people already spoke when they elected Barack Obama to a second term. There is always a potential for a Supreme Court nominee in every presidential term. Of course during the 2012 election, this was not a hot topic, but this is at least in-part why we choose a president, knowing there could be a vacancy on the high court.

Harry Reid And Senate Democrats Vote To Limit Filibuster Use

Today Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and Senate Democrats voted for the so-called “nuclear option,” to end the procedural filibuster and the 60-vote threshold for judicial and executive nominees. Democrats had good reason to change the Senate rules in the middle of a session because Republicans have managed to double the all-time number of judicial and executive nominee filibusters during Obama’s presidency. Now that’s some bat shit crazy conservative obstruction.

Government Shutdown: Republicans Make For A Disingenuous Negotiating ‘Partner’

The Senate passed a comprehensive budget plan back in the spring that would have ended the sequester cuts. It’s no surprise the Senate budget was dead on arrival in the House. Republicans refused to negotiate until a last minute offer by Speaker John Boehner to appoint a conference committee the night before the government would shut down. It was literally minutes before midnight. This was something they could have done for the past six months, but instead Republicans now blame Democrats and President Obama for failing to negotiate over the budget.

The Fake-Filibuster: Because Senator Ted Cruz Loves The Sound Of His Own Voice

When this article was published, Senator Ted Cruz was still fake-filibustering on the Senate floor. His reason for fake-filibustering is to denounce Obamacare and call for it’s defunding. This will never happen of course, but a little thing like reality won’t stand in the way of delusion for Republicans like Cruz. And I say this is a fake filibuster because Cruz has no power in this situation to hold the Senate hostage.

Republicans Want To Impeach President Obama, And They Don’t Need A Reason

Increasingly conservative constituents are asking Republican elected officials, “Why can’t we impeach President Obama?” And in many cases, these Republicans (Senator Ted Cruz, Representative Blake Farenthold) answer by saying it’s a good question, and that they would love to impeach Obama, but the problem is the Democratically controlled Senate. Republicans lack any solid reasoning for impeachment (surprise), but that’s not what stands in their way. What stands between Republicans and an impeachment attempt is a tiny sliver of acumen remaining in the United States Congress.
