Chart: Obama vs. Bush: Private Sector Job Growth (First 52 Months)

There is a lot of Republican right-wing misinformation about the state of the economy and private sector job growth. And breathtaking in their ineptitude are conservatives who believe President Obama is presiding over a net private sector job loss economy. This simply is untrue. I don’t say this because it’s my opinion, I say it because the data gathered by the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows net private sector job growth since January 2009 of almost 2.6 million jobs. It’s not something that can be disputed because we have actual data and record keeping. It’s information that anybody can research, but it requires a lot less conjecture and a little more work, which might produce a result that would not comport to right-wing narratives.

Republicans Behaving Badly: Tennessee Representative Uses Bible To Justify Starvation

Rep. Stephen FincherIn the never-ending chronicles of Republicans behaving badly, Tennessee Representative Stephen Fincher uses a Bible quote as his shield. I guess in Fincher’s warped mind he is absolved of any guilt because he is only carrying out the wishes of God. I mean, it’s printed in the Bible. It’s supposed to be the word of God. And it’s REALLY old! And it’s written in English no less!

In a rare bit of comprehensiveness in the world of news coverage, CBS Evening News reported tonight that Republicans produced false White House quotes on the Benghazi attack. Of course CBS struck a journalistic even tone in their reporting, but there will be none of that in this blog post.

VIDEO: White House Correspondents’ Dinner: ‘House of Cards’ Spoof

I’m a big fan of Netflix’s House of Cards, and if you haven’t seen it yet, you should. The entire first season is excellent, but you could watch just for Kevin Spacey’s performance alone. In a sign of just how successful this online series is, last night’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner opened with a “House of Cards” spoof titled “House of Nerds.”

Poll: Majority Of Pennsylvania Voters Are ‘Angry’ Or ‘Dissatisfied’ Over Background Check Vote

A Quinnipiac University poll finds a large majority of Pennsylvania voters supported the Manchin-Toomey background check bill that was “defeated” in the Senate last week. Sixty-nine percent of PA voters said they “strongly support” expanded background checks. The background check bill did not make it to the artificial 60-vote threshold needed to pass. In the Senate, barring political nonsense, it only requires a simply majority to pass a bill. But those days are long gone. The failure of expanded background checks to pass the Senate has 34 percent of PA voters “angry,” and 36 percent “dissatisfied.”
