VIDEO: White House Correspondents’ Dinner: ‘House of Cards’ Spoof

I’m a big fan of Netflix’s House of Cards, and if you haven’t seen it yet, you should. The entire first season is excellent, but you could watch just for Kevin Spacey’s performance alone. In a sign of just how successful this online series is, last night’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner opened with a “House of Cards” spoof titled “House of Nerds.”

In the spoof, Congressman Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) schemes to get the seating chart he desires at the White House Correspondents’ “Nerd Prom.” He completes the 6-minute spoof, talking directly to the camera (a House of Cards staple) and telling “Nerd Prom” host Conan O’Brien that “it must be so hard to write jokes about a town that already is one.” He then finishes with an address to beltway politicians. “Democrats, Republicans, the White House, Congress, you all came together to make this spoof,” said Underwood (Spacey). “That’s what real bipartisanship looks like. I may lie, cheat and intimidate to get what I want, but at least I get the job done. So I hope some of you are taking notes.”
