Republicans Hate This Graph: The Case Against Austerity
Republicans have decried economic stimulus in favor of austerity. They say government spending does not create economic growth, it hinders it. Well, the United States has not followed the austerity approach of many European countries, and we have the GDP growth to show for it. No thanks to Republicans.
So while Japan and much of Europe has faced stagnant economies or worse in the aftermath of the Great Recession, the United States has seen steady economic growth, surpassing pre-recession GDP levels. And what do Republicans want? They want austerity. They want massive government spending cuts. They want the European model. Well, you can see the European model in the graph above.
