Climate Change: Anti-Science, Anti-Fact, Anti-Intellectual – That’s How Republicans Roll

Who is the chairman of the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology? That would be Representative Ralph Hall of Texas. He is a climate change skeptic. As you can probably guess, he is also a Republican. Who is likely to replace Hall as the House science chair in the 113th congress? That would be Lamar Smith, also a climate change skeptic, also from Texas, oh, and also a Republican.

Liberal Media Bias? Welcome to Reality. Or Would You Prefer ‘Truthiness’ Instead?

Stephen Colbert - photo by methodshop.comTo say there is a sizable liberal bias in the media is to show how far the conservative movement has dragged this country to the right in the past 30 years. I’m talking politically, not socially. The country is on a progressive liberal march as always when it comes to social issues. The issues conservatives rail against today will be the issues they defend tomorrow. If there is truth to the charge of liberal bias in the media it is because, as Stephen Colbert quipped, “Reality has a well-known liberal bias.” In other words, it is liberals who have led the charge when it comes to advancing human progress on social issues, so it stands to reason the mainstream media would also have a similar slant if the media stands for the truth and what’s right. Alternatively you could go with Colbert’s “truthiness” and only accept “facts” you wish to be true (from the gut) instead of facts that are true.

Don’t Vote for the Party or the Candidate, Vote for What is Right

It might seem like a difficult choice sometimes to vote at all, particularly if you live by the idea of voting for what is right. I guess a more nuanced approach would be to say you should vote for the candidate who is closer to what you believe is right. The game might be rigged, but don’t allow the candidate who is further from your values to win by not casting your vote. And I sincerely say this regardless of who you plan to vote for. I will lay out the case in article after article of why I think that should be Barack Obama, but you will have to vote your conscience, not mine.
