In the never-ending chronicles of Republicans behaving badly, Tennessee Representative Stephen Fincher uses a Bible quote as his shield. I guess in Fincher’s warped mind he is absolved of any guilt because he is only carrying out the wishes of God. I mean, it’s printed in the Bible. It’s supposed to be the word of God. And it’s REALLY old! And it’s written in English no less!

Over the weekend, former Republican Senator Bob Dole gave an assessment of his party, saying the GOP should hang a “closed for repairs” sign. At one time Dole represented the reasonable mainstream of the Republican Party. Not 20 years have passed, but the modern Republican Party is unrecognizable.

Senator James Inhofe, perennial climate change denier, says it is a “great disservice to those who have experienced this tragedy” to link climate change to last week’s deadly tornado in Moore, Oklahoma. While I do not think it is disservice to the victims, I do think it is a disservice to climate scientists, who would never make such a claim.

I’m a big fan of Netflix’s House of Cards, and if you haven’t seen it yet, you should. The entire first season is excellent, but you could watch just for Kevin Spacey’s performance alone. In a sign of just how successful this online series is, last night’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner opened with a “House of Cards” spoof titled “House of Nerds.”
