South Carolina Democratic Chairman’s Insulting Comment About Governor Nikki Haley
This one is for those who might think I overlook insensitive or insulting remarks made by Democrats. Potentially racist comments are rare on the left, but to be sure, I don’t care what party you belong to. If you’re asshole, I’ll call it out.
During a party event, South Carolina Democratic Party Chairman Dick Harpootlian said, “In about eighteen months from now, hopefully [gubernatorial candidate Vincent Sheheen] will have sent Nikki Haley back to wherever the hell she came from and this country can move forward.”
Because Governor Nikki Haley is an American citizen, born in South Carolina to Indian parents, you can see how Harpootlian’s comment would raise a few eyebrows.
I’ve never heard of Harpootlian until now, and I can’t say I’m sure these comments were directed at Haley’s ethnicity, but I think it’s safe to say that we don’t need this kind of rhetoric in any political party regardless of intent. I’m tempted to point out that this is a South Carolina Democrat, and not a northern Democrat, but that doesn’t mean Democrats in blue states are off the hook. Make a similarly foolish comment and I’ll report it here.
