The Americans: FX’s Cold War Drama Delivers

If one thing is clear after two episodes of FX’s new 80s-era drama, the quality of scripted television has never been better. The Americans, created by CIA officer turned screenwriter, Joe Weisberg, is a cold war drama about covert Soviet KGB officers living as American citizens. The show stars Keri Russell as Elizabeth Jennings and Matthew Rhys as Phillip Jennings. They are a married couple with two children and living the American dream in 1981, they also happen to be Soviet KGB agents.

So Bill Maher must be a hypocrite because he says he wants the war on drugs to end while supporting a candidate who does not share that view? In fact, Maher should throw every other issue out the window and back either Gary Johnson or Ron Paul (write-in) for president? — 1. What a hell of a way to put someone in a box. 2. Very smooth slipping in a mention of the libertarian candidates (who have zero chance).

Nine cast members of “The West Wing” (NBC, 1999-2006) reunite for a four-minute mini episode titled “Walk and Talk the Vote.” The mini episode actually serves as an informational ad instructing voters about filling out the “non-partisan” section of their ballot, as well as a campaign ad for Bridget Mary McCormack who is running for Michigan Supreme Court. She is the sister of actress Mary McCormack, who was a West Wing cast member from 2004 through 2006.

I think we are on the correct side of important issues like marriage equality, civil rights, women’s rights and so on, but that doesn’t mean we own moral superiority in every aspect of life, and it doesn’t mean we are right about everything or that we can always decipher someone’s motives.
