QUOTE: As If Wanting The Gun Wasn’t A Pretty Good Heads Up In The First Place
Maybe if you are looking to buy a semi-automatic weapon, that might be reason enough to negate the sale. We can bypass the background check altogether.

Are we really doing this again? It seems when President Obama takes a vacation longer than a couple of days, world events (whatever they might be at the time) lead conservatives to speculate whether he really cares. The guy campaigned to be president and was elected president, so it’s a safe bet he gives a shit.

Are you living in a first-world democracy, with things like (relative) freedom, liberty, and economic stability, and are you worrying about distressing world events?

I know this blog post is going to make me an asshole.

I feel it’s necessary to focus this blog post specifically on the police officer who killed an unarmed teenager in Ferguson, Missouri almost two weeks ago.

The ability to agitate a white anti-government conservative is highly dependent on who is victimized. If it is a black person getting the shaft by government, or a local police department, or anyone really, the level of concern from this white anti-government conservative rests somewhere between their concern for global warming and equal access to the voting booth.

The United States spends over $50 billion per year to wage a war on drugs. Our prisons overrunneth with non-violent drug offenders, their sentences varied, but all assuming a life-long second-class citizenship status once they return to society. This creates a cycle of repeat offenses because it’s harder to earn a living when many companies won’t hire a person who has served prison time. These repeat offenses are a burden on our judicial system, costing taxpayer dollars, and made worse by conflict-of-interest ridden for-profit prisons, who would like to see higher recidivism rates. With over two million Americans incarcerated, the United States has the highest incarceration rate in the world. All of this in a country where a “dangerous” drug called alcohol is legal. And the argument in support of the drug war is that drug legalization would exact too high a cost on society. If you ask me, we are paying a pretty hefty price already.

Apparently when you want to take part, maybe hold your local government accountable, some Republicans show you nothing but contempt.

I have one thought on Ferguson, positing that the level of protest, demonstration, and civil unrest is an indictment itself on the officer involved shooting and killing of Michael Brown. After all, do you really think the community would respond the way it has if this was a justified shooting and killing? Of course, remembering that we must not act as judge and jury, as everyone deserves due process.

It’s salient that in 2014 anybody would feel the need to hold a sign stating, “Black Life Matters,” but unfortunately such a sign is still necessary.
