Obamacare Won’t Kill Grandma, But Republicans Still Want To Repeal It

Before I talk about Obamacare and irrational Republicans, I have to remind everyone that we need to fight back against the false narrative that says both sides are the same. Right now in Washington, Republicans are not about governing. They aren’t about solutions. They aren’t about helping people, especially minorities of any group. Both sides might cater to their special interests and both sides might feed at the trough of big business, but both sides DO NOT have the same philosophy when it comes to governing and looking out for the disenfranchised.

Obamacare Repeal: At Least Republicans Dropped The Pretense

As President Obama said today, Republicans no longer rely on a pretense to replace Obamacare with something else. Republicans are simply opposed to the Affordable Care Act, nothing more. There is no Republican alternative. The Republican Party might be fracturing in other areas, but repeal of Obamacare is indeed their unifying issue.

Study Concludes Repeal of ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ Had No Impact On Military Readiness

ROTC DADT - photo by Matt RadickNearing the one-year anniversary of the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell (DADT), a new study titled (“One Year Out: An Assessment of DADT Repeal’s Impact on Military Readiness” – PDF) by Palm Center shows that the repeal has had “no overall negative impact on military readiness.” DADT banned gays and lesbians from serving openly in the military. The congressional bill to repeal DADT passed in December 2010 and went into full effect on September 20, 2011. Here are some of the findings from the study:

Affordable Care Act: Women’s preventive health services begin August 1, 2012

Starting tomorrow a long list of preventive health benefits for women kicks in as part of the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare). Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) provided a rebuke of Republican minority leader Mitch McConnell’s (R-KY) call for a vote to repeal Obamacare. In her response she listed the women’s preventative benefits that will go into effect on August 1, 2012:

Video: Republicans Waste $50 Million In Failed Attempts To Repeal Health Care Reform

According to CBS News, the House of Representatives has wasted $50 million in failed attempts to repeal the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare). To be clear, it’s Republicans who are responsible for this waste. It costs $24 million a week to run the House. A total of 2 weeks of time has been spent on 33 separate votes to repeal Obamacare over the last 18 months. So Republicans have wasted just short of $50 million with their political stunts.

House Republicans Vote (Again) To Repeal Obamacare

I guess when you vote people into office who say “government is not the solution, it’s the problem,” then you get stupid, symbolic political votes like the vote today by Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives, led by Speaker John Boehner (R). Of course I didn’t vote for any such anti-government candidate. I like my representatives to actually represent the people, not piss on them.

Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell Officially History

Don't Ask, Don't Tell - photo by Brian BennettIt is hard to believe it was December, 19th 2010 when I wrote my post titled Don’t Ask Don’t Tell is Dead, Done, Gone. It would be another 9 months before that statement was officially true. While Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell was repealed last year it wasn’t until 12:01 AM this morning that the repeal official went into effect. This ends the lies, the fear, and the witch hunts that existed under the old law. Now gays and lesbians no longer need to hide who they are. They can serve openly without fear of discharge from the military.
