Liberal Media Bias? Welcome to Reality. Or Would You Prefer ‘Truthiness’ Instead?

Stephen Colbert - photo by methodshop.comTo say there is a sizable liberal bias in the media is to show how far the conservative movement has dragged this country to the right in the past 30 years. I’m talking politically, not socially. The country is on a progressive liberal march as always when it comes to social issues. The issues conservatives rail against today will be the issues they defend tomorrow. If there is truth to the charge of liberal bias in the media it is because, as Stephen Colbert quipped, “Reality has a well-known liberal bias.” In other words, it is liberals who have led the charge when it comes to advancing human progress on social issues, so it stands to reason the mainstream media would also have a similar slant if the media stands for the truth and what’s right. Alternatively you could go with Colbert’s “truthiness” and only accept “facts” you wish to be true (from the gut) instead of facts that are true.

Republicans Use “Bill O’Reilly” Logic On Taxation

Republicans and conservatives have this idea that until government stops wasting money, they aren’t going to pay anymore in taxes. Since when did people get the idea that they have a line-item veto when it comes to their tax dollars? This is an argument used to deflect away from their real position; they simply don’t want to pay more taxes. So why do the feel the need to clarify it with an illogical excuse?

The “Liberal” Media Reaction to Paul Ryan’s Dishonest RNC Speech

Paul Ryan delivered a fact-challenged speech last night and today the media is calling him out. Conservatives call this “liberal media bias,” and it’s oh so convenient. It gives them cover to say whatever stupid shit comes to mind. Are you a conservative who has said something stupid, ignorant or factually inaccurate? Don’t correct yourself or apologize, simply blame the liberal media. Problem solved.

For Republicans, Duality is a State Of Mind, a Means To An End

Republicans exist in their own special place and time. A place that is loose with facts, stuffed with contradictory statements and topped off with hyperbolic rhetoric. Whatever will get the job done. Their soon-to-be nominee for president, Mitt Romney is the poster child of Republican duality. For Republicans this is simply a state of mind. The goal is to win the White House and take full control of U.S. government. Convictions are less important than ultimate power, and so Republicans willingly trample on their own statements and previous policy positions. It’s a means to an end.

Undocumented Immigrants and their US-Born Children

Immigration Reform Rally - Don't Take My Parents Away!What is the greater crime – Entering the country illegally? Or, a judge ordered separation of parent from child? If you ask me, it’s the latter, and I’d like to hear someone try to make a case for the former being the bigger crime. I’m not saying we should ignore the rule-of-law, but we need a judicial system and an immigration system that does not run on absolutes. We need to stop treating illegal immigration as a serious crime, because it is not.
