Some Republicans Come Out In Favor Of Same-Sex Marriage

As if we needed further evidence that the mainstream Republican Party is out-of-touch with the majority of America, a number of prominent Republicans have signed a legal brief in support of same-sex marriage, denouncing the official party platform. The brief will be used in a case heading to the U.S. Supreme Court arguing against California’s Proposition 8, a ballot-initiative that made same-sex marriage illegal in the state.

FBI Raids The Scooter Store

So you’re telling me The Scooter Store, the company advertising free scooters for everyone, was committing fraud? Say it ain’t so! — I always thought the promises in those commercials were suspect. Now we know why.

Hey Mississippi, Better Late Than Never On That Slavery Thing

Lincoln - movieIn what appears to be another reason for conservatives to hate liberal Hollywood, the movie “Lincoln” has led to ratification of the 13th Amendment by Mississippi. This amendment is more commonly known as the official end to slavery in America. Alright, that’s not fair, I should clarify by saying that “most” modern conservatives support the 13th Amendment. Is that better?

Bill O’Reilly Says NBC News Is “Protecting The President” By Not Covering Drones

Last night Bill O’Reilly was even more dishonest than usual when he claimed NBC News was not covering the Obama administration’s drone policy. Never mind that Michael Isikoff broke the story for NBC. Never mind that MSNBC had ample coverage of the story on afternoon and prime time shows like The Rachel Maddow Show. And never mind that the “No Spin Zone” is actually a front for all spin, all the time. To be fair to O’Reilly, maybe he wasn’t dishonest, maybe he just didn’t care to check. On his way to fulfilling a pre-existing narrative, O’Reilly managed to fool himself.

Boy Scouts of America and Mainstream Conservative Bigotry

We have one party in this country that has no problem with discrimination. On one hand Republicans say they don’t want to talk class or race or sexual orientation, on the other hand, everything they do and say shows their open support for bigotry within the ranks. As always, it needs to be repeated that not all conservatives and Republicans are bigots. But if a person is a bigot, that person is more likely to be a Republican.

Immigration Reform: Republicans Require Politically Advantageous Human Rights

Have you noticed this trend? — Republicans have a nasty habit of waiting until their position is politically untenable before they shift course and adopt a specific human rights cause. They do it time and time again. And let me clarify, I’m not talking about all Republicans, I’m talking about — old school, head in the sand, my way or the highway, cling to my guns and my religion — right-wing extremists. The problem is that many Republicans and conservatives have a hard time ignoring what should be the fringe and instead cater to it. So while not all Republicans have gone AWOL on human benevolence, all Republicans are culpable for the offensive and out of touch rhetoric and policies of their party.
