We’ve heard it many times before, the speech where a candidate declares he or she is “suspending” their campaign. But, why not just say the campaign has come to an end? Because the use of the word “suspend” seems too “focus group,” right?

New Jersey Republican Governor Chris Christie is in the middle of two scandals, the bridge lane closing, and use of Hurricane Sandy relief funds for tourism advertisements (where Christie himself was prominently featured while running for re-election). Yesterday MSNBC’s Up with Steve Kornacki broke the news of a third scandal. Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer says the Christie administration has withheld Sandy relief funds because she did not give her approval to a redevelopment plan in the city.

Remember when the Supreme Court ruled the Defense Of Marriage Act (DOMA) unconstitutional? That happened only 4 months ago, so it’s no surprise that state-level bans on same-sex marriage are still standing, waiting to be challenged in the courts. But let’s make one thing very clear, every Republican-led state that chooses to defend their same-sex marriage ban in court will do so with taxpayer dollars. If a federal ban on same-sex marriage is unconstitutional there’s pretty much zero chance state-level bans are not. So that means every time so-called “fiscal conservative” Republicans defend the indefensible they are wasting taxpayer dollars.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie began his keynote speech at the Republican National Convention by saying we should choose respect and by also saying leaders need to stop tearing each other down. Later in this same speech Christie threw out his opening message and angrily began attacking Democrats and showing no respect for the tens of millions of Americans who identify with the Democratic Party.
