Romney Campaign Plays Politics With Consulate Deaths In Libya
U.S. ambassador to Libya J. Christopher Stephens, along with three staff members were killed during an attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya. The attack was part of violent protests at both the U.S. embassy Egypt and U.S. consulate in Libya. The protests were sparked by a film critical of Islam’s Prophet Muhammad.

Study Concludes Repeal of ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ Had No Impact On Military Readiness
Nearing the one-year anniversary of the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell (DADT), a new study titled (“One Year Out: An Assessment of DADT Repeal’s Impact on Military Readiness” – PDF) by Palm Center shows that the repeal has had “no overall negative impact on military readiness.” DADT banned gays and lesbians from serving openly in the military. The congressional bill to repeal DADT passed in December 2010 and went into full effect on September 20, 2011. Here are some of the findings from the study:

Liberal Media Bias? Welcome to Reality. Or Would You Prefer ‘Truthiness’ Instead?
To say there is a sizable liberal bias in the media is to show how far the conservative movement has dragged this country to the right in the past 30 years. I’m talking politically, not socially. The country is on a progressive liberal march as always when it comes to social issues. The issues conservatives rail against today will be the issues they defend tomorrow. If there is truth to the charge of liberal bias in the media it is because, as Stephen Colbert quipped, “Reality has a well-known liberal bias.” In other words, it is liberals who have led the charge when it comes to advancing human progress on social issues, so it stands to reason the mainstream media would also have a similar slant if the media stands for the truth and what’s right. Alternatively you could go with Colbert’s “truthiness” and only accept “facts” you wish to be true (from the gut) instead of facts that are true.

Just as Mitt Romney managed to get his head out of his ass (or maybe reports of this are premature?), he proceeded to ram his foot in his mouth. Friday on Fox News, Bret Baier asked Romney about neglecting to mention the troops or the war in Afghanistan during his Republican National Convention speech. Romney replied, “I’m going to regret you repeating it day in and day out. — nervous Romney laughter — No. When you, when you give a speech, you don’t go through a laundry list, you talk about the things you think are important.” — Whoops.

I’d like to remind my friends on the left that we put people in boxes too. We are sometimes guilty of exclusionary thinking just as people on the right are. I think we are on the correct side of important issues like marriage equality, civil rights, women’s rights and so on, but that doesn’t mean we own moral superiority in every aspect of life, and it doesn’t mean we are right about everything or that we can always decipher someone’s motives.
