So President Obama Lied To You About Your Health Care Insurance Plan
So it turns out President Obama, the same president you’ve scoffed at, ridiculed, and displayed contempt for, lied to you about your insurance plan. Obama said, “If you like your plan, you can keep it,” and now that turns out not to be true for you, Mr. Outraged Republican.
Well, if you get your insurance through your employer, more than likely your plan hasn’t been cancelled. And if your plan has gotten more expensive, its pretty damn convenient to blame Obamacare for something your private, for-profit insurer decided to do. After all, it’s not like insurance rates were flat or decreasing prior to passage of the Affordable Care Act. But to listen to Republicans you’d think all was well with America’s health care system before Obamacare came along. And in fact, some of them say just that. They say America has the best health care system in the world, and they should know, since it requires a high level of privilege to think that is true.
America does have some of the best doctors and hospitals, that is, if you have the means to afford it. So why don’t Republicans just say what they mean? Because they can’t be that stupid, right? They must know tens of millions of Americans do not have health care insurance. They must know tens of millions more Americans have lousy health care insurance. Why don’t Republicans just admit what we all know, that they don’t think people should have access to health care if they lack the means to pay for it. Is it so hard to say? Just admit it. If you have to hide your true feelings, then that means you know you are wrong. So if you think you are right, just say it.
And about those lousy health care insurance plans that the Obama administration assumed people did not like and would not want to keep, it turns out people really do prefer the devil they know. But that assumes people are aware they have craptastic health care insurance in the first place. Millions of Americans thought they were covered until they got sick and then came the financial tsunami, ultimately leading to bankruptcy. But this is the health care system Republicans hold up as the best health care system in the world. I don’t know about you, but any health care system that leaves millions of people uninsured and millions more in financial ruin, is not a health care system to be lauded.
