Concealed-Carry Gun Laws To Extend Across State Lines?

Last week the Senate started debate on the bi-partisan gun bill championed by Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Pat Toomey (R-PA). Expanded background checks is the biggest gun control provision, but we need to pay special attention to something else in the bill, national reciprocity of concealed-carry permits. It means gun owners with proper permits (in states that allow concealed-carry) would be allowed to cross state lines with their concealed firearm.

Obama’s Proposed Social Security Cuts Are Wrong

Last week, The White House released a summary of President Obama’s budget. The proposal aims for a 3 to 1 spending cuts to tax increase ratio to reduce the deficit over the next 10 years. But the biggest headline from Obama’s budget plan is the $230 billion he wants to cut from Social Security.

Yes, People Do Cling To Guns And Religion

In April 2008, then Senator Barack Obama got into a bit of political trouble. Referring to working-class voters, the presidential hopeful said, “They get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.” This statement caused an immediate and lasting backlash. Ultimately he got past it, won the Democratic primary and then the presidency. And to this day, the common wisdom is that Obama was wrong when he made this statement. But was he?

Representative Barton: Biblical ‘Great Flood’ An Example Of Climate Change

Not wanting fellow Republican James Inhofe to take the lead on ‘batshit crazy things elected officials say,’ on Wednesday, Republican Congressman Joe Barton (TX) said the “Great Flood” from the Bible is an example of climate change not caused by man. Essentially he’s saying — not all climate change is created equal. Or maybe it’s — this ain’t your father’s climate change. Either way, this climate change thing is still up for debate according to Barton. Man-made? Natural occurrence? God? — Who knows?

Senator Inhofe: MoveOn.org, George Soros, Michael Moore Responsible For Global Warming ‘Hoax’

On Wednesday, Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) said we must “act boldly” on climate change because an “overwhelming majority of scientists” agree global warming is real. This is not news of course. For those of us who value logic, reason, and well, reality, we give deference to the scientists who study climate change and its potential effects on the planet and the human species.

FCC To Consider Relaxing ‘Indecency’ Standards

Family groups like the Christian conservative group, American Family Association (AFA), have stretched the facts in response. According to the AFA, “if enacted, the new FCC policy would allow network television and local radio stations to air the f-word, the s-word, and to allow programs to show frontal female nudity, even during hours when they know children will be watching and listening.”

Melissa Harris-Perry Responds To ‘Hateful’ And ‘Vitriolic’ Conservatives

Glenn Beck, Sarah Palin and other conservatives just couldn’t believe their ears when they heard Melissa Harris-Perry say, “kids belong to whole communities,” in a recent MSNBC “Lean Forward” advertisement. The fake outrage by these prominent conservatives caused the predictable: their minions sent Harris-Perry countless “hateful, personal attacks” to her inbox.
