“I was not given a legitimate opportunity to host under acceptable conditions,” Olbermann said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday. “They know it and we know it. Telling half the story is wrong.”

Keith Olbermann has been notably absent from Current TV tonight during the Iowa Caucus coverage. He tweeted the following earlier today…
Headed into the office now in fact RT @OwensC08 @KeithOlbermann So is #Countdown back tonight?
— Keith Olbermann (@KeithOlbermann) January 3, 2012
then…
So as not to mislead: I am informed Countdown will not be on tonight. I must defer on all questions to @JoelHyatt @AlGore and @Current

then…
Back by popular demand, Countdown returns Wednesday Night 8 PM Eastern. Now with 99% less Santorum (google it)

It seems rather odd that he would be “informed” that Countdown would not air only hours before normal show time. It’s even more bazaar because we have known for at least the last week that Current TV would air Politically Direct, hosted by The Young Turk’s Cenk Uygur, instead of Countdown.
What should we make of this? Countdown was the start of a complete makeover for Current TV. It’s only been a little over half a year since Olbermann premiered on Current. Is there already tension? For the sake of Keith Olbermann fans let’s hope not but between his tweets and his on-air absence tonight it’s at the very least highly unusual.
