Two NYPD Officers Murdered, But The Killer Only Gets Partial Credit

This past weekend saw the vicious murder of two New York City police officers, something you would expect to unify the law-abiding public, but as it turns out, the killer only gets partial credit for this heinous crime. Excuse me if I’ve misinterpreted the grandiose oratory of Fox News, right-wing media, and your conservative uncle. Because also deserving equal blame, in their myopic vision, is anyone who has ever questioned police tactics. Their estimation is two-fold. The killer is obviously to blame, but because he subsequently killed himself, the nearsighted now need the “unruly” protestors to stand in as proxy.

Ferguson: Iconic Photo Of Defiance Against Police Brutality

In the story linked below, there is a now iconic photo by Robert Cohen, showing a man throwing a tear gas canister back at police, representing in one image the justified defiance of demonstrators who faced an over-the-top militarized police force losing control in Ferguson, Missouri. The man in the photo has now come forward, to tell his side of the story.

Ferguson: Does The National Guard Qualify As An ‘Outside Agitator’?

Since the killing of Michael Brown, an unarmed teenager, by a Ferguson, Missouri police officer two weeks ago, residents have demonstrated in the streets demanding justice. But also in the streets are protestors who don’t call Ferguson home, and of course the news media. Many local officials have referred to “outside agitators” as the driving force behind violence, civil unrest, and looting in Ferguson. Even the much hallowed Captain Ron Johnson said as much. Never mind that the local Ferguson police, and the St. Louis County police played a huge role escalating tensions in the days after the killing of Brown, local and state officials would instead like us to focus our attention on these “outside agitators.”

Was Civil Unrest In Ferguson Inevitable?

I have one thought on Ferguson, positing that the level of protest, demonstration, and civil unrest is an indictment itself on the officer involved shooting and killing of Michael Brown. After all, do you really think the community would respond the way it has if this was a justified shooting and killing? Of course, remembering that we must not act as judge and jury, as everyone deserves due process.

Ferguson, It’s Now Your Turn

The people of Ferguson, Missouri want justice, and the hostility towards law enforcement is understandable given what we know (so far) about the police shooting of Michael Brown. And with the Ferguson and St. Louis County police escalating the situation earlier in the week, using indiscriminate overwhelming force against the community, it’s also understandable that this angst has only grown in the week since the shooting.

Walmart Workers Want Justice And Respect, Flash Mob Style (VIDEO)

On September 5th, Walmart workers around the country rallied for better wages, benefits and a little thing called respect. The rally in Raleigh, North Carolina had a special flare with a well-coordinated and peaceful flash mob assembly. Walmart is the biggest employer in America with over one million workers. With that many employers, Walmart can only get away with their labor practices for so long. Eventually the people will fight back. This flash mob is likely only the beginning.
