Poll: Majority Of Pennsylvania Voters Are ‘Angry’ Or ‘Dissatisfied’ Over Background Check Vote

A Quinnipiac University poll finds a large majority of Pennsylvania voters supported the Manchin-Toomey background check bill that was “defeated” in the Senate last week. Sixty-nine percent of PA voters said they “strongly support” expanded background checks. The background check bill did not make it to the artificial 60-vote threshold needed to pass. In the Senate, barring political nonsense, it only requires a simply majority to pass a bill. But those days are long gone. The failure of expanded background checks to pass the Senate has 34 percent of PA voters “angry,” and 36 percent “dissatisfied.”

Judge Orders A Halt To Pennsylvania Voter ID Enforcement Before Election

Commonwealth Court Judge Robert Simpson ruled Tuesday that Pennsylvania cannot enforce it’s voter ID law before the election. The ruling can be appealed to the state Supreme Court but that appears to be unlikely since it was the highest court in PA that sent the law back to the lower court with instructions to do what it has now done. This is a big win for voting rights in Pennsylvania and the country. However, the law still exists and could be enforced at a later date. So there is still work to be done.

PA Rep. Daryl Metcalfe: People are “Too Lazy” to get the “ID They Need”

Daryl Metcalfe (R) - Pennsylvania Rep.Pennsylvania Representative Daryl Metcalfe (R), sponsor of PA’s voter ID law, says a lot of people are “too lazy to get up and get out there and get the ID they need.” Just as they [Republicans] have no proof of widespread voter fraud, they also have no proof that “a lot of people” are lazy. It’s simply an invented narrative, and it is pervasive on the Right.

Voter ID: The Pennsylvania Supreme Court Heard Arguments Today

Today the Pennsylvania Supreme Court heard arguments over the state’s strict — I mean, discriminatory — voter ID law. The case is on appeal from a lower court ruling. Unless overturned by the PA Supreme Court, the voter ID law is set to be enforced this election day, November 6th, potentially disenfranchising hundreds of thousands of PA voters.

Pennsylvania Voter ID Law Lives, Judge Refuses to Block It

Commonwealth Court Judge Robert Simpson says he will not halt Pennsylvania’s voter ID law. Everyone else is calling the law “tough” but I call it “discriminatory,” and it matters little to me what one particular judge has ruled because I know what’s right and what’s wrong. It turns out that the reason Republicans stated we needed this law played little role in the judge’s decision.
