Harry Reid And Senate Democrats Vote To Limit Filibuster Use

Today Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and Senate Democrats voted for the so-called “nuclear option,” to end the procedural filibuster and the 60-vote threshold for judicial and executive nominees. Democrats had good reason to change the Senate rules in the middle of a session because Republicans have managed to double the all-time number of judicial and executive nominee filibusters during Obama’s presidency. Now that’s some bat shit crazy conservative obstruction.

Harry Reid Says Obamacare Puts U.S. On Path To Single-Payer Health Care System

On a local PBS program “Nevada Week in Review,” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said, “What we’ve done with Obamacare is have a step in the right direction, but we’re far from having something that’s going to work forever.” Reid said ultimately they had to drop the idea of a public option during health care legislative negotiations in 2009. “We had a real good run at the public option,” said Reid. He said Senator Joe Lieberman was the main opposition to a public option, at least among those who would otherwise support health care legislation. Because of course no Republicans supported health care reform. But Reid also acknowledged their was support for a true single-payer system saying, “Don’t think we didn’t have a tremendous number of people who wanted a single-payer system.”

Eliot Spitzer – Number of the Day: Senate Filibuster Reform

Since President Barack Obama took office in January 2009, Republicans have used the filibuster at an unprecedented rate. Take a look at this chart over at The Atlantic. There is no question filibuster reform is needed as both Democrats and Republicans have increasingly relied upon it when in the minority. But Republicans have taken reckless use of the filibuster to new heights since becoming the minority in the Senate in 2006.

Harry Reid resorts to Republican-like tactics and the media loses it’s mind

I wrote last week about Senator Harry Reid’s claim that Mitt Romney didn’t pay taxes for 10 years. In that post I agreed with Jon Stewart’s segment where he called Harry Reid “terrible,” and I still stand by that assessment mainly because Reid felt the need to say, “His poor father must be so embarrassed about his son.” That’s not only terrible, it’s awful.

Senator Harry Reid says Romney “didn’t pay taxes for 10 years”

This story has been widely reported, but I thought I’d write about it because I like to call out nonsense, left or right. In case you missed it, Senate majority leader Harry Reid (D-NV) revealed to the Huffington Post that a Bain Capital investor told him that Mitt Romney “didn’t pay taxes for 10 years.” Reid added, “Now, do I know that that’s true? Well, I’m not certain.” Not certain? Seems to me if you are the majority leader in the Senate you might want to be sure before throwing around charges like that. Reid also said, “His poor father must be so embarrassed about his son.” Really Reid? Bringing Romney’s father into your bullshit story? Even if your story is true, saying that his dad would be embarrassed is really a low blow. Jon Stewart called out Reid’s bullshit on last night’s Daily Show segment titled, You, Harry Reid, Are Terrible:
