The Economics Of Moral Outrage, How Liberals And Conservatives Differ

At some point we as a society need to come to terms with the fact that economic status is not a good barometer for morality, and it certainly tells you nothing of the character of a human being. You are not in higher moral standing because you earn a larger paycheck. And a person should not automatically be assumed morally suspect because they are unemployed, or can’t pay their mortgage, or can’t keep food on the table.

Long-Term Unemployment Proves Economic Austerity Folly

The Bureau of Labor Statistics showed little change in long-term unemployment in March, with 4.6 million Americans being tossed away like garbage. These are people who want a job but cannot find one, and their elected representatives are doing nothing about it. Republicans, particularly congressional Republicans, have shown very little concern for the unemployed. They reject any attempts to stimulate the economy, and when the long-term unemployed try to get by on unemployment benefits, Republicans try to snatch that from them as well.

Supply Side (Trickle Down) Economics Doesn’t Work. Can We Move On Now?

This topic will never die on The Left Call, at least not until people stop believing the lie that is trickle down economics. This idea that we need to give rich people more money in the form of tax cuts before they will create more jobs would make for a nice laugh if it wasn’t so damaging to the country and to the prospects of income and wealth equality. And when I say equality, I don’t mean totally equal, I’m talking about getting back to something more reasonable, a time when CEOs only made 30 times the average worker instead of 300 times.

Obama Calls ‘Paul Ryan’ GOP Budget ‘Thinly Veiled Social Darwinism’, But There’s Nothing ‘Veiled’ About It

Speaking at an Associated Press luncheon on Tuesday, President Obama called Paul Ryan’s (R-WI) Republican budget plan “thinly veiled social Darwinism.” The president was referring to the budget’s massive tax cuts for the rich and steep cuts to programs for the poor. The GOP budget is nothing more than trickle-down economic theory, a religion to Republicans. It’s also the same economic theory that has for 30 years failed to produce even a trace of the “trickle down” promised.
