Observation of the Day: Independent Voters Aren’t So Independent

I have a dirty little secret, I’m registered Republican. Say what? Yes, it’s true. But no, I’m not trying to perpetrate some kind of sadistic fraud on Left Call readers. I’m most definitely a liberal, but I’ve been registered Republican since I was old enough to be registered to vote. My entire family, with a few exceptions, are Republicans, which I’ve previously talked about. For someone who at the time was not politically active (or even aware), registering as a Republican just seemed like the obvious choice. After all, your family is always correct about these things, right?

Observation of the Day: Conservatives Fear Social Justice

Conservatives who respond in opposition to social justice are not behaving with a clearly defined philosophy or ideology. Conservatives who oppose or deflect away from any discussion of equal rights or miscarriages of justice do so out of fear. And this fear fuels their backlash against change in social order. Their neat little world is rocked, as they thrash about in response.

Observation of the Day: Get A Job. No. Get A Better Job. No. There Are No Jobs.

Have you noticed the people who railed against Occupy Wall Street protesters, telling them to “get a job,” are some of the same people attacking fast food strikers, telling them to “get a better job”? And then these same people also revile President Obama, saying “there aren’t enough jobs,” and that “most of the jobs created are low paying jobs.”

Observation of the Day: Robert Reich Says ‘Regressives’ Have Taken Over Republican Party

The fundamentalist constituency, eating the Republican Party alive, should be known collectively as “regressives,” according to a Facebook post by Robert Reich. There is nothing conservative about them. They do not wish to preserve the status quo, they wish to destroy it, and with it, all the progress over the past century. Reich calls them “regressives” while I have referred to them as “extreme right-wing radicals.”
