Fight Guns With More Guns? – I Like Die Hard, But I Don’t Believe I’m John McClane

Some of the same pro-gun conservatives who blame liberal Hollywood for gun violence, strangely rely on Hollywood’s warped sense of reality when it comes to how best to defend against the next potential mass shooter.

John McClane - Die Hard

“Come out to the coast, we’ll get together, have a few laughs.” John McClane (Bruce Willis), Die Hard (1988)

These Second Amendment-redefining, gun-toting, card-carrying NRA members say if the teachers were packing heat, they could have taken off the shooters head, to paraphrase Representative Louie Gohmert (R-TX). See, according to people like Gohmert, we all have a bit of John McClane in us, just waiting to blow something up and blow someone away. All in a days work.

But of course in the real world this never happens, even when armed civilians are present at the scene of mass shootings. Conservatives are attempting to play out a Hollywood script in real life. But leave it up to a fictional villain to get it right when Hans Gruber said in the first Die Hard movie, “Americans… all alike. This time, John Wayne does not walk off into the sunset…”
