I’m Not A Progressive, I’m A Liberal
I’m not a fuck’n progressive; I’m a liberal damn it! Say it: L-I-B-E-R-A-L — It will make you feel good.
It seems the word “liberal” is making a big comeback this year, shedding its negative image. An image created entirely by conservatives, but liberals did nothing but go along for the ride, and then find another term altogether — progressive. But the word liberal is making a comeback, particularly after election day. With big wins on same-sex marriage, marijuana legalization, oh, and with President Obama’s re-election, liberals have plenty to be happy about. So if you’ve felt the need to hide behind the term “progressive,” why not give the term “liberal” a test drive instead.
If by a ‘Liberal’ they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people — their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, and their civil liberties — someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a ‘Liberal’, then I’m proud to say I’m a ‘Liberal’. – John F.
