Facts Don’t Matter: Add Congressman Stearns To The ‘Birther’ Roll Call
You can add Republican Representative Cliff Stearns (FL) to the ‘birther’ roll call. Congressman Stearns is a leading member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. On Tuesday he told reporters, “I am, shall we say, looking at all the evidence.” The only evidence needed is a birth certificate, which of course exists. But that isn’t good enough for birthers, and let’s face it, nothing ever will be. See, it’s not about whether President Obama is legally the president, it’s about racism and bigotry.
Why didn’t anybody lead a birther movement for Bush or Reagan or any other president? Could it be that they all were old white guys? These birthers see Obama as different and un-American. They do not accept that someone who looks like Obama can be the leader of the free world. Since reality is not compatible with their mental programming they have opted to shun reality in favor of a delusional freak show known as the birther movement.
Even if we dismiss their delusion for a moment and pretend evidence exists that Obama is not a natural-born citizen, it wouldn’t even matter at this point. Obama is president. He has been president for over 3 years. Nobody is going to remove a sitting president from office for this reason, after the fact. If you were ever going to make this case stick (and there is no case), it needed to be done before the oath of office. At that point, precedence becomes just as important (and more so) than prior legal technicalities.
But to pretend for just one moment I have given too much credence to their nonsense.
“I think we are just going to hold in abeyance a final decision until we hear, you know, some of these people seem to have legitimate concerns, so I don’t think it is unreasonable just to see what they have to say.”, said Stearns.
These birthers have no idea how ridiculous they seem to the rest of the country and the world.
