Is Rick Perry Intentionally Killing His Own Campaign?
Probably not. The sad truth is he probably really believes what he’s saying.
In a new campaign ad, Rick Perry complains about gays serving openly in the military and spreads the delusional idea that the Obama administration is waging a war on religion. I think Rick Perry is watching too much Fox News in December.
I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m a Christian, but you don’t need to be in the pew every Sunday to know there’s something wrong in this country when gays can serve openly in the military but our kids can’t openly celebrate Christmas or pray in school – Rick Perry
I don’t see how this ad will help Perry’s campaign outside of the deep red south. Even moderate conservatives likely would have a problem with the message of this ad even if they were sympathetic to the notion of a war on Christmas. The arbitrary linking of gays in the military and kids celebrating Christmas rings hollow. This ad’s target audience is not conservatives, but what I like to refer to as right-wing extremists with a very narrow worldview and zero tolerance for deviance. The number of ‘dislikes’ compared to ‘likes’ for this YouTube video shows the collective disgust towards this ad from a mostly moderate American public.
