RNC Chair Reince Priebus Takes Issue With NBC, CNN Hillary Clinton Projects

Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Reince Priebus is requesting both NBC and CNN cancel planned Hillary Clinton projects. NBC is planning a mini-series starring Diane Lane as Hillary Clinton and CNN is planning a documentary.

“Out of a sense of fairness and decency and in the interest of the political process and your company’s reputation, I call on you to cancel this political ad masquerading as an unbiased production,” Priebus wrote in letters to both networks. And of course Priebus would be remiss if he didn’t include an obligatory threat. “If you have not agreed to pull this programming prior to the start of the RNC’s Summer Meeting on August 14, I will seek a binding vote of the RNC stating that the committee will neither partner with you in 2016 primary debates nor sanction primary debates which you sponsor.”

Oooo, scary!

New York Times op-ed columnist Maureen Dowd says, “Reince Is Right.” Oh really? “Films can dramatically alter the way famous people are viewed, making them cooler, more glamorous, more sympathetic — and the reverse,” said Dowd. “Clever filmmakers can offer up delicious soufflés of propaganda and storytelling, putting a new imprint on the historical record.”

Tell ya what, if rich conservative Republicans stop airing their propaganda nonsense in the areas of health care, climate change, etc., then maybe, just maybe, I’ll agree that Reince has a point. Until then, Reince can take his Republican primary debates to Fox News and offer them exclusive coverage.
