Insomniac Edition: Regina Spektor ‘You’ve Got Time’ From Netflix’s ‘Orange Is the New Black’

“You’ve Got Time” — Regina Spektor’s new single from the new Netflix original series “Orange Is the New Black.”

Think of all the roads
Think of all their crossings
Taking steps is easy
Standing still is hard

If you aren’t watching “Orange Is the New Black” and you have a Netflix subscription, I highly recommend it. In fact, go out and get a free one-month Netflix subscription just to watch this 13 episode show. While not as good as House of Cards, another Netflix series recently nominated for 9 emmy awards, “Orange” still holds its own.

The show is by Jenji Kohan, best known for the also excellent “Weeds” on Showtime. I would put “Orange” solidly in the “dramedy” category just the same as Weeds. It focuses on Piper Chapman, a woman who made a few bad choices in the past, but now a decade later, after being convicted of drug smuggling long after putting her life in order, she is serving a 15 month sentence at Litchfield federal prison. Nearly all the show’s scenes (at least half -way through the first season — that’s what I’ve watched so far) take place in the prison with the exception of “flashbacks” for the various characters (“Lost” style).
