There has been some question as to Bernie Sanders’ concern for racial injustice. Of course, economic justice, which would most benefit minorities, is a lifetime calling for Senator Sanders. But, I do understand that for some, it is not enough. Yes, that is a 21-year-old University of Chicago student Bernie Sanders being arrested in 1963 while protesting segregation, confirmed by the Sanders campaign Chicago police officers carry protester Bernie Sanders, 21, in August, 1963 to a police wagon from the mobile classroom site at West 73rd Street and South Lowe Avenue in Chicago. Two NYPD Officers Murdered, But The Killer Only Gets Partial Credit

photo by Dave Hosford via Flickr

This past weekend saw the vicious murder of two New York City police officers, something you would expect to unify the law-abiding public, but as it turns out, the killer only gets partial credit for this heinous crime. Excuse me if I’ve misinterpreted the grandiose oratory of Fox News, right-wing media, and your conservative uncle. Since the killing of Michael Brown, an unarmed teenager, by a Ferguson, Missouri police officer two weeks ago, residents have demonstrated in the streets demanding justice. But also in the streets are protestors who don’t call Ferguson home, and of course the news media. Many local officials have referred to “outside agitators” as the driving force behind violence, civil unrest, and looting in Ferguson. Even the much hallowed Captain Ron Johnson said as much. Never mind that the local Ferguson police, and the St. Louis County police played a huge role escalating tensions in the days after the killing of Brown, local and state…

Missouri GOP Leader Calls Ferguson Voter Registration Drives ‘Disgusting’

photo by J.B. Forbes / AP / St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Apparently when you want to take part, maybe hold your local government accountable, some Republicans show you nothing but contempt. In Ferguson, Missouri, after the killing of Michael Brown, a black unarmed teenager by a white police officer, you might expect at least a few black residents will register to vote, and set their sights on making a difference in the next local election. After all, the NY Times reports that black voter turnout in the last local election in Ferguson was 12%, even though the city of Ferguson is 60% black. And the majority of police officers and elected officials are…
