Voter ID Would Have Allowed Romney To Win Wisconsin Says Campaign Co-Chair

Alberta Darling - AP Photo

Romney campaign co-chair and Wisconsin state senator, Alberta Darling, said that voter ID would have allowed Mitt Romney to win her state. TPM reports: Voter ID “absolutely” would have made a difference in the outcome of the election, state Sen. Alberta Darling (R) told Mike Gousha of WISN on Sunday. She suggested that voter fraud helped President Barack Obama win the state. “We’re looking at all sorts of different precincts and all sorts of same-day registrations,” Darling said. “I know people will go, ‘We don’t have fraud and abuse in our elections.’ But why, why can’t we have voter ID…

Judge Orders A Halt To Pennsylvania Voter ID Enforcement Before Election

Commonwealth Court Judge Robert Simpson ruled Tuesday that Pennsylvania cannot enforce it’s voter ID law before the election. The ruling can be appealed to the state Supreme Court but that appears to be unlikely since it was the highest court in PA that sent the law back to the lower court with instructions to do what it has now done. This is a big win for voting rights in Pennsylvania and the country. However, the law still exists and could be enforced at a later date. So there is still work to be done. Does this mean as a resident…

PA Rep. Daryl Metcalfe: People are “Too Lazy” to get the “ID They Need”

Daryl Metcalfe (R) - Pennsylvania Rep.

Pennsylvania Representative Daryl Metcalfe (R), sponsor of PA’s voter ID law, says a lot of people are “too lazy to get up and get out there and get the ID they need.” Just as they [Republicans] have no proof of widespread voter fraud, they also have no proof that “a lot of people” are lazy. It’s simply an invented narrative, and it is pervasive on the Right. I don’t believe any legitimate voter that actually wants to exercise that right and takes on the according responsiblity that goes with that right to secure their photo ID will be disenfranchised. As…

Pennsylvania Supreme Court Sends Voter ID Law Back To Lower Court

I can’t help but think the Pennsylvania Supreme Court wanted to take the easy road on this ruling when they decided to send the Voter ID case back to a lower court for reconsideration. That means the law is still in effect but is pending yet another court review. The lower court has until October 2nd to issue a ruling. The [lower court] judge was instructed “to consider whether the procedures being used for deployment” of ID cards comports with the law as written — which the court itself made clear was not the case. “The Department of State has…

This is why a Voter ID Requirement is Equivalent to a Poll Tax

Harper v. Virginia Board of Elections - image by The Progressive Family

If a Citizen must PAY to get an ID. AND a Citizen must have an ID to VOTE. THEN a Citizen must PAY to VOTE. No truer words have been spoken. It’s really as simple as that. And if you think getting a voter ID is easy, that is your privilege talking. Even if you don’t think you come from privilege, if you aren’t living in poverty then it’s a failure of imagination on your part to think you have it figured out. It’s a failure to understand that your situation does not equal someone else’s situation. Every citizen has the right to…
