James Inhofe, Oklahoma Senator (R) and self-anointed global warming and climate change denier, says only God has the power to change the global climate. During a radio interview to promote his new book, The Greatest Hoax: How the Global Warming Conspiracy Threatens Your Future, Inhofe said people are arrogant to think that humans can change the climate.
excerpt of Inhofe’s interview with Voice of Christian Youth America:
Well actually the Genesis 8:22 that I use in there is that “as long as the earth remains there will be springtime and harvest, cold and heat, winter and summer, day and night.” My point is, God’s still up there. The arrogance of people to think that we, human beings, would be able to change what He is doing in the climate is to me outrageous.
Mr. Inhofe, your ignorance is a bigger problem than anybody else’s arrogance but let’s go along with your line of thinking for just a few moments.
Where do you draw the line? At what point does human activity give way to God’s will? You don’t deny that humans have destroyed rain forests and contaminated large areas of the environment, do you? And you certainly cannot deny the Fukushima nuclear disaster in Japan, right? Or what about the multiple instances of burning rivers (yes, there were rivers that burned) in this country before the founding of the EPA? I’m not even old enough to remember that myself, but you are sir. And then, the BP oil spill, which is still devastating wildlife and fishermen in the Gulf region two years later. Mr. Inhofe, I find it impossible to believe you could deny these cases (and many more) where human activity has had a dramatic affect on the environment of the planet.
Apparently God has relinquished control of the environment, but when it comes to the global temperature, that’s where He draws the line. By your logic, humans can utterly devastate the environment but we cannot possibly have any influence on global temperatures because that is the exclusive domain of The Almighty. Your ignorance is breathtaking.
