Sounding Dangerously Conservative: A ‘High’ Gas Price Diatribe
by Steve Schulerin Economy- February 29, 2012 at 1:35pm
The following originally appeared as a comment by Steve Schuler to: Santorum Says $4 Gas Caused 2008 Financial Collapse
You know what? I’m really tired of hearing people whine about high gas prices. The rest of the world laughs at what we call high, and with good reason.
Let’s do some math:

One Year Later: Japan’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Disaster
by David K. Suttonin Environment- February 28, 2012 at 5:29pm
The recent license approvals by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) have some, including myself, reflecting on the nuclear disaster in Japan. It was almost a year ago (March 11, 2011) that an earthquake and tsunami devastated the northeast coast of Japan. The following weeks and months saw a struggle to contain a building nuclear disaster. There was a partial meltdown, several hydrogen explosions (that destroyed containment buildings) and radioactive material seepage that continues to this day.

Santorum Says $4 Gas Caused 2008 Financial Collapse
by David K. Suttonin Economy- February 27, 2012 at 10:07pm
Today Rick Santorum said gasoline prices were the cause of mortgage defaults that led to the financial collapse of 2008. “We went into a recession in 2008 because of gasoline prices. The bubble burst in housing because people couldn’t pay their mortgages because we’re looking at $4 a gallon gasoline”, said Santorum. He ignores the housing bubble and risky mortgages that were the actual cause. The collapse was likely accelerated by high gas prices but it would have happened regardless, so it definitely was not the cause.

A Letter To Rick Santorum: You Aren’t Running For Moral High Commander
by David K. Suttonin Politics- February 27, 2012 at 3:02pm
Dear Rick,
You are entitled to your opinion on things like birth control and same-sex marriage, but make no mistake, these are JUST your opinions. You are not running to become the father-figure of the American people. You are not running to become the moral high commander. You are running for President of the United States, the highest office in a culturally diverse land.
Message To Romney: Your Wealth Isn’t The Problem, You Are
by David K. Suttonin Politics- February 26, 2012 at 10:36pm
On Talking Points Memo, Pema Levy writes about the Mitt Romney campaign’s new tactic of embracing his wealth. In the article Levy reminds us of the numerous verbal gaffes that show Romney is out-of-touch with the average American. The most recent of these incidents was on Friday when Romney said his wife Ann “drives a couple of Cadillacs”. He said it like it was normal for people to own more than one Cadillac, or more than one car for that matter. Statements like this aren’t going to play well with a large segment of the public at a time when they are struggling with day-to-day finances.
Santorum Doesn’t Subscribe To Separation Of Church And State
by David K. Suttonin Government- February 26, 2012 at 3:38pm
In a completely unsurprising revelation, Rick Santorum said, “I don’t believe in an America where the separation of church and state is absolute“. His statement is “almost” identical in wording to something John F. Kennedy once said but with intentionally opposite meaning. JFK said, “I believe in an America where the separation of church and state is absolute.” Santorum made his remark on church-state separation during an interview on This Week on ABC. He went on to say, “The First Amendment means the free exercise of religion and that means bringing people and their faith into the public square.”
Rick, does that include Muslims? If America were to elect a Muslim president would you still believe there is no separation of church and state?
